Half Square Triangle
Add 1" to the 'finished-in-quilt' measurement of the block, and cut 2
squares of contrasting fabric. (If you're making one of the charity baby
quilts, cut (6) 9.5" squares each, of 2 or more different fabrics.)
Pair a light and a dark, right sides together. Draw a diagonal line, and sew
an accurate 1/4" away from that line on both sides of it. Cut apart on your
drawn line. Each pair of squares yields 2 half square triangle blocks.
Add 1 1/4" to the 'finished-in-quilt' measurement of the block, and cut 2
squares of contrasting fabric. (If you're making one of the charity baby quilts,
cut (10) 8.75" squares, 5 each of 2 different fabrics). Pair a light and a dark,
right sides together. Draw a diagonal line, and sew an accurate 1/4" away from
that line on both sides of it. Cut apart on your drawn line. Press to the dark
fabric. (See the above diagrams)
Layer the two resulting half square triangle blocks, right sides together,
with their fabrics in opposite directions. That is, the light half of one
block should be face down on the dark half of the other block. The seams
will 'lock.'
Draw a new line on the unsewn diagonal, and sew an accurate 1/4" away from
that line on both sides of it. Cut apart on your drawn line.
Each pair of squares yields two quarter square triangle blocks.
